Tripping West

Friday November 16, 4:50 PM and pulling out of our driveway for our journey to the southwest.  One might question the wisdom of leaving at such a late hour but believe me it was necessary as we needed to be on the road that day.  Of course, I just had to play the last night and playoffs in my volleyball league.  A very popular idea around our house.  We needed to cover some ground in order to make Thanksgiving dinner with our friends Ed & Pam in Tucson so off we went.

First snowfall in Vermont

A cold night at a rest area on the NY Thruway, 4 more increasingly warmer nights at assorted Walmart parking lots across the country and there we were in Tucson on the wednesday before Thanksgiving just like I promised.

We spent a week at our traditional first real stop: Desert Trails RV park just outside Tucson.  Kind of an eclectic, funky, charming place where we decompress after a 2500+ mile drive.  Very fun place: we played bocce, met some interesting folks and went to 3 musical venues hosted
And the road begins
by the RV park.  Two were quite good.  One, a dance band, aptly named the Retro Rockets, featuring 50s-60s R&R beginning at 7pm for us old folk.  This necessitated an early start to our happy hour featuring my old friend Tequila.   The dance floor was filled for almost every song.  I sometimes forget how great that early R&R is.  There was one guy sporting double leg braces who pogoed for hours with a shit-eating grin all the time.  Maybe   something other than Tequila involved?

Each year we say we should stay here longer but this time we have a rendezvous with our Montanan travel buddies in Organ Pipe National Monument 130 miles just on the Mexican border.  This is my first attempt at a new web host and having a frustrating time of it.  Can't seem to format as I'd like but will hopefully improve or find another possibility.  Stay tuned.

Ed a professor at UAZ and former research, colleague & Pam
are good friends and wonderful Thanksgiving hosts.
