Imperial Beach and Points South

Looking north to SD

Just to the south of our temporary home in Chula Vista lies the town of Imperial Beach and a surf beach that stretches to the Mexican border.  There’s also a huge estuary and wildlife reserve, the “Tijuana Slough” and Borders Park runs from the Tijuana River south to the border.  Aside of the area near the Imperial Beach Pier the beach and paths of the Wildlife Reserve were basically deserted.  When the mood struck us for a walk on the beach this being the closest is most often where we ended up.

Heading south, notice the border wall and bullfighting arena.  Not in season now but had it been I think we would have gone into Mexico to see a bullfight.  I'm sure it would have been quite "experience" and probably one we wouldn't repeat.

The Border,  busy beach on the Mexican side but just us and the birds on our side.

Long-billed Curlews

Marbled Godwits

Vast wildlife reserve on US side and developed ocean view on Mexican side, not that there isn't plenty of development nearby in US.

There always seem to be flowers in Southern California but spring has sprung and the dunes are blooming

Beach scene, complete with lifeguard near Imperial Beach Pier

Crabbing off the pier, a Spider crab.
Displaying a good days catch of assorted crabs and a Starfish.   Not sure what will be done with the latter.
